LNJC Religious School:
What was Hebrew school like when you were a kid? boring? confusing? For many of us, religious school meant memorizing just enough to get through our Bar or Bat Mitzvah, without knowing exactly what we were learning or why.
We can do better. We are very proud of our comprehensive curriculum that embraces the best of formal and informal education practice. Every child has unique learning needs and we welcome the opportunity to fulfill our communal obligation to educate our young people. Jewish education should be fun and it should help our children live meaningful and moral lives.
This year we embark on an exciting new chapter of our religious school. We have decided to use the Intitute for Soutern Jewish Life educational curriculum. This curriculum is designed for small southern congregations. It will teach our children the tenets of our faith while taking into account the unique nature of Judaism in a small community in the south.
The classes in our Beit Sefer (school) are as follows
Grade Pre-K: M'tukim (Sweetie pies)
Grade K Yeladim (Kids)
Grade 1: K'tanim (Little Ones)
Grade 2: Younger Bonim (Builders)
Grade 3: Older Bonim (Builders)
Grade 4: Kochavim (Stars)
Grade 5: Tsofim (Scouts)
Grade 6-7 Nachshonim (Leaders)
Grades 8-10 Madrichim (Guides)
We are excited to have a dynamic, committed group of teachers and teacher aids this school year. The students will have a meaningful experience full of learning, singing and hands-on activities. We look forward to a wonderful school year. Rabbi Shields is happy to speak with anyone regarding their child’s Jewish education and how the community can support parents/guardians in raising and educating Jewish children
